The 2018 South Carolina 1st Congressional District general election was held on November 6, 2018, and Democrat Joe Cunningham defeated Republican nominee Katie Arrington. Cunningham won the election with 50.60% of the vote to Arrington’s 49.22%, flipping the district to Democratic control. The race was one of the most competitive House races in the country and marked the first time a Democrat had won the district since the 1980s.
